Former Wakefield, Widnes and Crusaders second-rower Frank Winterstein has signed with Penrith for the 2019 season after his release from Manly.

The 32-year-old was spotted training with the Panthers earlier this week and has been confirmed as the 30th member of their playing squad for the new season.

Winterstein made a half-century appearances for the Vikings between 2012-13, scoring 15 tries in the process.

He won’t play in this weekend’s clash with Parramatta but could provide back-up to Viliame Kikau, who is out injured until round four.

He said: “It was a bit of whirlwind last weekend with everything falling into place for me to join the Panthers.

“I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given and look forward to working with the talented players and coaches.

“I’ve been in the professional sport environment for a long time and I know I can use that experience to help the young players here, on and off the field.”
