Hooker Matty Fozard will remain with Sheffield Eagles after signing a new one-year contract.

Fozard made 31 appearances in all competitions during his debut campaign with the Eagles.

Sheffield director of rugby and acting CEO Mark Aston said he was delighted to have kept hold of the 21-year old.

“There was only one place that Matty wanted to be and that was here with Sheffield Eagles,” Aston said.

“Matty has shown a great commitment to this club by sticking with us during a difficult time, and we are delighted that he sees his future with us.

“I can’t speak any higher of the lad. He came to us last season after being in a really good system at St Helens.

“He has worked really hard over the past 12 months or so, and if keeps up that level of commitment then has the potential to go forward.

“We are delighted to be in a position to keep him, and we think that he will make the number nine jersey his own this year.

“Keeping players like Matty here, coupled with some of the additions we have made over the last week or so gives me a great deal of excitement about the season ahead.

“We have a group of players here who are hungry, many of them have development in them, and we are really pleased with the dynamic of the squad.”
