Winger Peter Fox has left Wakefield by mutual consent.

Fox, 29, scored 45 tries in 84 Super League appearances for the Wildcats in two separate spells, and is now expected to join Championship club Halifax.

Wakefield coach Richard Agar said: “We’d decided that we wouldn’t be re-signing Peter for next year and for a player of his experience, we’d give him the opportunity to look elsewhere with the view to him bagging a contract for next year.

“We really thank him for his efforts.  Every time he crosses the stripe, you know he’s going to give you his best, whether that be on the training field or in a match, Peter gives you everything he’s got.

“The part he’s played since I’ve been here in building the club back up, he played a big part in that on the field and off the field.  We really wish him well in his new venture.”

Fox, who has also played for York and Hull KR, scored seven tries in six international appearances for England in 2008 and 2009, including one against Australia in the 2009 Four Nations final.
