Swinton have confirmed the re-signing of Nick Gregson for their 2022 League 1 season.

The former Wigan and Leigh back-rower made his Lions debut in 2016 on dual-registration from the Warriors, and made the permanent switch ahead of the 2021 Championship season.

He also spent time on loan at Heywood Road from the Centurions in 2019. He has also featured for Preston Grasshoppers in rugby union.

Nick Gregson on new deal

“I’m buzzing to re-sign for another year with Swinton,” said the 25-year-old.

“It’s a great place to be and it’s somewhere that I’ve always felt at home.

“With the squad members that have stayed, and the new lads that Allan has brought in, it looks really encouraging. I’m now really excited and looking forward to having a good crack at a tough League 1, and to right a few wrongs from last year.”

Head coach Allan Coleman on latest deal

Head coach Allan Coleman said: “It’s a massive signing for our club to retain Nick.

“We had lots of competition from all divisions, but he chose us. That says we are in the right place as a club. Nick is a fantastic player and I know he will be a leader for me next year. He has the ability and the potential to play at the top level.”

Swinton’s recruitment

Swinton have signed up trio Mitch Cox, Jordan Case and Ben Heyes for their 2022 League 1 season.

Also returning to Heywood Road are the likes of captain Rhodri Lloyd, Ireland international Will Hope and utility-back Mike Butt.

They were relegated from the Championship at the end of the season but have their sights set on an immediate return.

Coleman was appointed as head coach on a permanent basis at the end of August, following on from the departure of Stuart Littler, who has since gone to Oldham.
