Former South Stander determined to destroy Leeds’ Cup dreams

Huddersfield winger Jodie Broughton is keen to bring his boyhood team’s Challenge Cup dreams to an end this weekend.

The Giants play Leeds in the Challenge Cup sixth round on Saturday. Broughton was a Leeds fans as a child, but that is taking nothing away from his determination to win the game.

“I grew up supporting Leeds, I used to go to Rhinos games and stand in the South Stand cheering them on,” he said.

“I kind of want to haunt them. I was there in 1998 when they lost the Grand Final against Wigan and Jason Robinson scored the winning try and I’ve always thought that’s the sort of thing that I want to do.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play in a Challenge Cup final. I was on loan at Hull FC when they got there in 2008, and that was a great experience for me but I wasn’t allowed to play due to being Cup tied.

“It was a great experience, I’d like to experience that at Huddersfield and get a bit of silverware.”
