James Segeyaro has announced that he has a new contract for the 2022 season.

Segeyaro began his career at North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL. He made his debut in 2011 against Melbourne Storm, and went on to make 33 appearances for the club.

He has also represented Penrith Panthers, Cronulla Sharks and Brisbane Broncos in the NRL.

Segeyaro has also won five caps for Papua New Guinea.

The 31-year-old had a brief stint in Super League with Leeds in 2016.

In his latest video, Segeyaro said: “I just got a call from my manager saying I’ve got a contract.”

Leeds agreed to a settlement in 2017 that allowed Segeyaro to join Cronulla Sharks with immediate effect. He was placed on the transfer list by the Rhinos with a valuation of £250,000 following the announcement by the player that he would not return to fulfil the remaining two years of his contract with the Rhinos.

While at Brisbane, Segeyaro had been provisionally suspended by the NRL for testing positive for a performance enhancing drug.

He hasn’t played first grade since 2019 after a drink driving charge saw his tenure with Brisbane end.

Segeyaro was given a backdated 20-month suspension by the NRL Anti-Doping Tribunal. Due to time already served, Segeyaro was told he could be eligible for registration as a player on 2 June.

However, no club were linked with the former international hooker.
