Ford hoping to use cup win as platform for season

York City Knights head coach James Ford is hoping to use the club’s Challenge Cup victory over Keighley as a platform to continue their season in good form.

The Knights overcame Keighley Cougars 20-12 last weekend as they progressed into the fifth round of the competition, where they will face Dewbury Rams.

Therefore, Ford has spoke of his pride at the victory, and hopes they can carry that form into the rest of their season, starting with Doncaster this weekend.

“The Challenge Cup is a fantastic competition and to play a club as big as Keighley in the early rounds and beat them – we’ll take a lot of confidence from it,” Ford said.

“Obviously there’s one or two areas in our performance that we weren’t overly impressed by and we are going to be working hard to improve those but there are certainly some positive signs.

“Doncaster will be looking for a response after their Cup defeat and we’ll be an ideal target for them. They are good players; you don’t turn into a bad player overnight so they’ll come out all cylinders firing against us. I’m sure it will be a top class encounter between two good teams.”
