We take a look at who Toulouse could sign ahead of the 2022 season, including utility Ryan Hampshire…

With the departure of captain Johnathan Ford, Toulouse now head into their inaugural Super League campaign with just a 26-man squad.

Ford, 32, has left the club due to family and personal reasons just two weeks before the season starts.

Here are five players that head coach Sylvain Houles could add to his squad ahead of the campaign opener.

Ryan Hampshire

The obvious one heading into the new season is utility Ryan Hampshire. The half-back or full-back left Wakefield at the end of the 2021 season, and still remains without a club.

Hampshire has played more than 150 career appearances across stints with Wigan, Workington, Castleford, Leigh and Wakefield.

He could fill in the vacant spot left by former captain Ford in the halves for 2022.

James Maloney

Since the former NRL and Super League half-back announced his retirement from the professional sport, he has been enjoying part-time rugby league with Lezignan in French Elite 1.

The 35-year-old looks settled in France, and one has to ask if he could be tempted back into the professional game if just for one more season.

Remi Casty

Remi Casty is currently on the coaching staff at Toulouse. He was a part of the team’s promotion-winning grand final side before announcing his retirement.

At the age of 36, the former Catalans forward could be tempted back into the sport to help his side out who are low on numbers.

Dunamis Lui

It is believed that NRL forward Dunamis Lui is still without a club as the 2022 campaign edges closer.

The Samoan international made one appearance for Queensland in 2020 in the State of Origin series. He was most recently with Canberra Raiders in a five-year stint.

Adding Brisbane Broncos, Manly Sea Eagles and St George Illawarra to his list of clubs, he could definitely add some size and experience to the pack.

Jordan Rankin

Jordan Rankins returned to Australia ahead of the 2021 season to join Parramatta Eels.

An experienced half-back with more than 150 career appearances, Rankin enjoyed several seasons in the Super League with Hull, Huddersfield and Castleford.

At the age of 30, he could be exactly who Toulouse need in 2022.
