Widnes forward Gil Dudson is looking forward to the new season, after undergoing a proper preseason this year.

The Welsh international admits that last season was perhaps not his best, as he struggled to catch up with lost time in regard to fitness.

“I didn’t really have a pre-season at all last year, so I’m definitely in better shape now,” he explained to the Liverpool Echo.

“I only had a couple of weeks off when last season finished for a family holiday and I’ve been in since then.

“I’m a lot further on than I was at this point last year and that can only be a good thing.

“I was playing catch-up at the start of last season.

“I need that work to get my fitness levels up for the start of the season and last year that was lacking.

“I got a bit back into the swing of things towards the middle and back end of the season.

“Having got some work in early this time I’m looking for a big start to the year.”
