Fiji lined up for NSW Cup entry

Fiji are being lined up for inclusion into the NSW Cup for 2018 despite interest from the South Island of New Zealand.

New South Wales Rugby League CEO David Trodden told NRL.com that it was unlikely the Fijian bid would join the competition next year, with 2018 more likely.

The NRL‘s reserve grade set-up and NSW and Queensland Cup competitions are set to be revamped with more teams added.

“They would be a wonderful addition to our competition,” Trodden said.

“We have been working with Fiji for about two years now, but working through the commercial considerations of the whole involvement has taken us a bit longer than what we anticipated.

“We were hopeful that they might have been in the competition next year, but I think that’s appearing less likely now than we had hoped.

“But certainly we’re talking to Brian regularly about making sure that that happens in 2018 when this whole thing is ready to be launched.”
