Nathan Fien has opted to extend his stay at St George by signing a one-year extension to his contract.

Despite rumours that he would be forced out due to salary cap pressures, New Zealand international hooker Fien, 31, will remain with the Dragons until the end of 2013 at least.

“I am very happy to have sorted my future out and remain with the Dragons as I have really enjoyed my time at the Club and representing it so far,” said Fien.

“I am aware of the history attached to wearing the Red V jersey and am now looking forward to the rest of the season as well as the bright future working under Steve Price.”

Fien joined the Dragons from the New Zealand Warriors in 2008 and was an important figure during last season’s premiership victory.

Dragons CEO Peter Doust is pleased with the re-signing of Fien and his decision to extend his stay at the Club.

“Nathan is a key member of our senior playing group and we are very pleased that he has chosen to extend his career with the Club,” said Doust.

“Nathan is a significant contributor to our club both on and off the field and is a great role model for our younger players”.
