With the end of pre-season rapidly approaching Featherstone are now gearing up for their first Championship game of 2013 against Leigh Centurions at the Big Fellas Stadium on Sunday 3rd February. In what promises to be a highly competitive season in the Championship, Featherstone Rovers under the stewardship of Head Coach Daryl Powell will be aiming to retain the League Leaders Shield for the fourth successive season.

Following pre-season friendlies against Hunslet Hawks and Super League sides Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Castleford Tigers, players and coaching staff jet off to a four day training camp this weekend in Alicante, Spain. The camp will allow the players to train intensely for three of the four days in a different environment.

Head Coach Daryl Powell said: “Pre-season training is a long slog since the middle of November in some testing weather conditions. I was highly delighted how we performed at Castleford Tigers on Sunday as we put in a great performance. The camp will enable us to go away as a group and focus on a very important opening encounter against a strong Leigh outfit who are always a tough team to crack.”

Powell is hoping for the more support from the fans in 2013: “The support last season was tremendous and ever since I have been at the club, the fans have been growing in numbers. 2013 is a vastly important season for the club both on and off the field and if you remain undecided about getting a membership for the first time or renewing then I’d encourage you to take the plunge and join us for what will hopefully be an exciting and successful 2013. As the club strives to be in pole position for Super League in the forthcoming years it’s important that we carry on the momentum at the club and everyone’s support is vital.”
