England international Brett Ferres has agreed a new three-year contract with Leeds Rhinos, keeping the 30-year-old at Headingley Carnegie until at least the end of the 2019 Super League season.

Ferres joined the Rhinos this season on an initial one-year deal from Huddersfield Giants and has made 19 appearances so far this campaign, scoring four tries and playing more minutes than any other forward at the club.

“It is great to get the new deal over the line and to know I have got three great years to come up ahead of me with Leeds Rhinos,” Ferres said.

“I have really enjoyed my time at the club this season. Results and our league position have not gone to plan but this is a great club and I am  delighted to be part of it for the next few years.

“I will be looking to knuckle down and make the most of this opportunity to help get the team back to where we want to be at the top of the table.

“The young lads have had a tough experience this year and some of the senior boys too have been going through some new emotions through this year but I am confident we can come through stronger from the lessons we have learnt together.”

Leeds head coach Brian McDermott said: “Brett has been a very positive influence on our group this season and I am delighted he has agreed a new long term deal with the Rhinos.

“I am sure he will benefit from his first season at the club and will be stronger for it next season. Our focus now is on The Qualifiers and building on our recent improved performances and I am sure Brett will be a big part of that.”
