Featherstone Rovers have announced the signings of Super League duo Yusuf Aydin and Albert Vete from Hull KR and Castleford respectively on short-term loan deals.

Aydin, 22, is yet to make an appearance for The Robins, having made the move from Wakefield during the off-season.

The Turkey international has been sidelined in 2023 after undergoing surgery in January for a wrist ligament repair.

He has made 20 Super League appearances to date, and joined Willie Peters’ side on a two-year deal.

Featherstone boss Sean Long said: “We have picked up a few injuries since the York game, particularly in the forward pack.

“Therefore we have brought in some quality from Super League to bolster us in the next couple of weeks.

“There are a couple of tough games coming up in the shape of Batley and London, this will give the squad a bit of a life in what is an important part of the season.”

Hull KR head coach Peters commented: “Yusuf (Aydin) has just come back from a long-term injury and he needs to be playing first team rugby to continue his development.

“It’s a good opportunity for Yusuf to get back on the field with a strong Championship club such as Featherstone in a highly competitive league.”

Featherstone Rovers bring in experienced prop

Vete, 30, joins from Castleford ahead of Friday’s fixture at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium. The former NRL prop has made six appearances for the Tigers so far this season, having joined from Hull KR during the off-season.

The pair go straight into Featherstone’s 21-man squad for their Good Friday clash with Batley.

On Vete, Long continued: “The last few weeks have taken a toll on the team on the injury front mainly to our middles and we have brought in two quality players to bolster our pack going forward into the next couple of weeks.

“Aydin and Vete are two quality players of proven top level experience and it is great to have them both on board with us.”

On the move, Castleford interim head coach Last added: “We had a look at Albie on a couple of occasions this year and this week we’ve decided to go in a different direction.

“It’s difficult to carry him and Suaia [Matagi], they’re very similar in what they bring, but I feel Suaia is just offering a little bit more than Albert at the minute.

“I think it’s key for Albert’s development to keep playing. At the end of the loan period he will have played four weeks of consistent rugby league.

“Featherstone is a good club at the top end of the Championship. They’ve got some tough games so it will be good for Albert to get some game time over there.”

Both Aydin and Vete join Featherstone on two-week loan deals.
