Fantasy RL: Picking your team – top loose forwards

James Gordon

Ahead of the new season, we’ll be looking at options for your Fantasy Rugby League team in all positions in both Super League and the Championship.

Rounding off your team is your loose forward, though the chances are any option here can also be chosen as a prop, second row or hooker.

Wigan’s Sean O’Loughlin is the most expensive option at £175k, while Ryan Hinchcliffe is a potential points scoring option. He scored 113 points last season, if you decide that another hooker is first choice.

In the Championship, there’s Cory Paterson (£40k) and Rhys Curran (£30k), while Featherstone’s John Davies is also an option at £30k. All three scored more than 100 points last season, as did Dewsbury’s Aaron Brown and Toronto’s Jack Bussey.

Much like the other forward pack positions, loose forward is really a judgement call – is it a position you want to save money, or somewhere that adding someone like Stevie Ward at £125k might pay off in the long run. For a cheap option who is going to play, Widnes’ Tom Olbison or Catalans’ Thibaut Margalet might be good options.

None of the players available for £10k in the Championship registered a point last season, though London Broncos’ Jay Pitts is available for £20k, and he scored more than a century in 2017. Swinton’s ex-Warrington back-row Andy Bracek managed 91 points and is available for £20k too.
