Family kept Ferres in Yorkshire

Brett Ferres has revealed that his two daughters were the main reason that he turned down a move to the NRL in favour of signing for Leeds this week.

Newcastle Knights were one Australian outfit who were rumoured to be keen on acquiring the England international’s services, after it became clear he was leaving Huddersfield.

But despite feeling lucky to be in demand overseas, Ferres is pleased to be staying in Yorkshire.

“I was quite lucky, [there were offers from] both here and overseas,” he told reporters.

“It’s nice to be wanted. The best club out there was where I’ve ended up so I’m very happy about that.

“You only have to look at the success they’ve achieved over the years. Everyone wants to win silverware and I’m no different.

“I’ve got two beautiful little girls who I want to spend as much time with so moving to Australia was just not an option.”

Despite the controversial nature of his exit from the Giants, Ferres is enjoying the chance to make a fresh go of things at a new club.

“It’s a fresh start for me and I’m looking forward to the opportunity,” he said.

“The last year has seen plenty of ups and downs for me however this move gives me an opportunity to finally look forward to the future with confidence and be part of something special here at the Rhinos.”
