David Faiumu has agreed to extend his contract with Huddersfield until the end of the 2013 Super League season.

The versatile New Zealander can play at hooker or loose forward and joined the Giants in 2008 from North Queensland.

Huddersfield head coach Nathan Brown is pleased to have retained the services of the former Kiwi international.

“Fuey is very well respected amongst everyone at the club and is a very important part of our team on and off the field,” he said.

“For the Giants to keep improving it was important that Fuey was retained by the club going forward. He has played a big part on the way this club has developed in the past two years.”

Faiumu was voted the club’s Players Player of the Year in 2010 and had no hesitation in signing the new contract.

“I am very happy that I’ve extended my stay with the Giants,“ he told the club’s website.

“We are very settled here and like living in Huddersfield and I think that we have genuine chances of winning silverware now and in the future. The team is strong and we now have lots of really good young kids pushing through which gives us good depth to the squad.

“I think that Nathan and the coaches have brought some good footy out of me and I can still get better working here and bring some experience to the younger lads.”
