Huddersfield Giants hooker David Faiumu is confident his team can secure their place in the Engage Super League Grand Final with a strong performance against St Helens in their Qualifying Semi-final at the GPW Recruitment Stadium on Friday (8.00pm).

The Giants were selected as semi-final opponents by St Helens in Club Call and will head into the match buoyed by seven successive wins in Engage Super League..

“We are confident we can win,” said the New Zealand international. “The last seven weeks have been great for the club and we’ve been lucky enough to have a full, fit squad.

“There’s a good spirit amongst the boys so we should be going to Knowsley Road quietly confident after last week’s performance.

“We are working on our defence. They’re a great attacking team, they can beat you from anywhere on the pitch so all our players need to be on song.”

Huddersfield have never won or featured in a Super League Grand Final but they are now just 80 minutes away from Old Trafford and Faiumu knows how important it is to the club.

“It was always one of my goals coming over here to make it to a final and win a final,” he said. “The opportunity is there but personally I just want to put in a big performance for my club, the fans and my family.

“It’s always important to have a good fan base and for the supporters to get behind you. In the crucial moments of a game, in the dying stages when things are intense, to look to the crowd and hear the voices is always a massive boost for the players.”
