Salford youngster Niall Evalds is anticipating an exciting game when the Red Devils open up Magic Weekend on Saturday against Widnes.

The full-back is relishing the chance to play in front of such a big crowd at an iconic arena like St James’ Park.

“I’ve never played in a Magic Weekend fixture before but I’ve watched a few of them and it’s always a good spectacle,” he said.

“It should be a really entertaining game for the fans. Both teams like to throw the ball around so it has all the ingredients for another exciting match.

“I can’t wait to play in Newcastle. It’ll be the biggest crowd that I’ll have played in front of.

“It’ll be good to experience the crowd at St James’ Park. There should be a carnival atmosphere and I can’t wait to get out there.

“It’s a huge game for both teams. We’re in similar positions in the league table. As well as it being the Magic Weekend opener it’s important we stay focused on the two points required.
