Harlequins have completed the signing of Ryan Esders from Hull Kingston Rovers on a one-year contract from the start of 2010.

The 23-year-old loose forward becomes Quins’ first new signing for next season.

Esders has been on loan at the Twickenham Stoop since July, scoring two tries in six appearances for the Londoners.

“I’m really pleased to have signed for Harlequins,” said Esders. “During my loan spell here I’ve really enjoyed working with all the players and coaches and am very happy to be staying.

“The coaching staff have been great with me, especially Brian McDermott who has been very helpful and takes his time to work on my game.

“Harlequins is a great club with a really strong development side, something I think many players, including myself, don’t appreciate until they come down to London.”

Quins have already signed contract extensions with such key players as Chad Randall, Danny Orr and captain Rob Purdham.
