Esders ban overturned

Harlequins forward Ryan Esders has successfully appealed against the one match ban handed down to him by the RFL on Tuesday.

Esders, 23, had been found guilty of a dangerous throw on Warrington full-back Richie Mathers in Harlequins’ 58-0 defeat at Halliwell Jones Stadium last Sunday.

His appeal against the severity of the sentence was today allowed by the RFL Appeals Committee,  which took into consideration the player’s previous record, his guilty plea and a submission from Harlequins coach Brian McDermott pointing out that there was no intent to throw in the tackle.

It means the former York and Hull KR man can play for Quins in their third game of the season against Catalans on Sunday.
