England trio named in World XIII

England stars Sam Burgess, Gareth Ellis and James Graham have been named in the World XIII, published by Rugby League World.

Burgess and Ellis will take on the best in the world in 2010 as both ply their trade in the NRL with Souths and Wests respectively, while Graham will spend the season fighting to help get Saints back to the top of Super League.

The team is dominated by Australians, with full-back Billy Slater and Golden Boot winner Greg Inglis included in the line-up.

For New Zealand, Fuifui Moimoi is selected at prop while there is also a place for winger Taniela Tuiaki.

The World XIII was first published in 1978 by Rugby League World’s predecessor, Open Rugby, and included some of the most iconic names in the sport’s history – Graham Eadie, Green Vigo, Steve Rogers, Roger Millward and Jim Mills.

The 2009 World XIII was voted on by a combination of ex-internationals – Wally Lewis, Hugh McGahan and Garry Schofield – and members of the worldwide Rugby League media.

Club form is taken into account but, as with the Rugby League World Golden Boot, representative Rugby League matches are of greater significance.

The 2008 World XIII was: Billy Slater; Manu Vatuvei, Israel Folau, Greg Inglis, David Williams; Darren Lockyer, Johnathan Thurston; Steve Price, Cameron Smith, James Graham; Simon Mannering, Anthony Laffranchi, Jeremy Smith

The new issue of Rugby League World is on sale in the UK on Friday 4 December.
