The Wigan winger touched down in each half as the English completed a 26-10 win over the French, who looked slightly off-pace.

Jamie Rooney was the catalyst for much of England’s play; setting up two tries and scoring one himself at the start of the second half.

Lee Smith and Jamie Jones-Buchanan were the other try-scorers for the home side while Rooney added three goals to the total.

Coach Paul Cullen admitted that the game had been a tough test for his side, saying: "I'm very pleased, certainly with our defensive effort.

"We narrowed our focus for this match and didn't try to be too expansive.

"I am disappointed we leaked two tries but it was a comprehensive win and we didn't pick up any injuries.

"It was a good hit-out for us against a French side who were very dogged and very tough."
