Wests Tigers and England second rower Gareth Ellis has been ruled out of the NRL All Stars game.

Tigers head coach Tim Sheens revealed that the 29-year-old is nursing a groin injury and will not be available to play in the exhibition match.

“It is a re-occurring injury from days gone by where he had some hernia issues and had surgery,” he told the club’s website.

“We don’t think it is anything major. He is off his feet at the moment and doing cross training.

“Gareth has had a lot of footy and he plays a lot of minutes so fitness wise, it is not an issue.

“We just want to make sure that it doesn’t become a nagging thing that plagues him through the year and leads to surgery. At the moment, we don’t think surgery, the doctors don’t think surgery, it’s just rest.”

Ellis was due to feature in NRL All Stars team against the Indigenous All Stars at Skilled Park, home of the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday, February 12.

His replacement will be named on Tuesday.
