Ellis to be fit for start of Hull FC’s season

Hull FC coach Lee Radford has confirmed that Gareth Ellis should be fit for the start of the 2016 campaign.

Ellis sustained an Achilles tendon injury in July which has hampered his preparations for the new season.

But the former England back rower, who looks set to play more at prop and loose forward in 2016 rather than on an edge in the second row, is making good progress, according to his coach.

“He is doing everything he can to come back in the best physical shape possible,” Radford told the Hull Daily Mail.

“He looks a million dollars physically but we won’t rush him. We’ll have him ready for either the last friendly or the start of the season.

“With some new players around him he will have a different role next year. It’s a new challenge for Gaz and one I know he can’t wait for.

“There are plenty of options regarding where to play him next season. He will play prop and third middle at times, while he can also cover back row.”
