Ellis Gillam returns to Whitehaven

Whitehaven have re-signed back-rower Ellis Gillam for the 2020 season.

The Barrow-born forward first arrived at Haven ahead of the 2018 campaign and made 28 appearances for the club.

Gillam then joined Rochdale in the Championship for 2019, playing 14 games before returning to Whitehaven midway through the season. He has signed a new one-year deal with the Cumbrian club.

He said: “It takes leaving to appreciate what you have and how much more enjoyable it is when you are playing with a group of mates.

“I learned that last season and I jumped at the chance to come back part way through the season.

“We are a very tight knit group and we look out for each other – that means you enjoy playing your rugby and everyone buys in to the same goals.

“I love the club and the fans and I’ve enjoyed my time here, so it was an easy decision to sign again. I think we will surprise a few teams next season. We expect it to be tough but we are confident that we can survive the challenge.”
