Eastmond decision expected in 48 hours

In the aftermath of St Helens 18-25 defeat to Warrington, boss Royce Simmons faced some questions over the future of star halfback Kyle Eastmond who has been linked with a move to Rugby Union for several weeks.

Eastmond was a shadow of the player that burst on to the Super League scene as veteran opponent Lee Briers stood tall out of the four half-backs on display.

“I think it would have an impact on anyone.” Simmons said, “if you are making one of the biggest decisions of your football career. I think it will make you worry.”

Asked if he knew if Eastmond had made a decision on his future, Simmonds responded, “I think that will come out in the next forty-eight hours, if not the next twenty four hours. I don’t know what the decision is going to be. Everyone is pushing hard for a decision day.”

Simmons indicated that he has grown tired of the constant speculation.

“I don’t want to go into next weeks game wondering whether… Last thing we want is your whole side worrying about if a player is going or whatever, you want it solved early in the week or one or two days after a game so you can get your head around, and the players can get their heads around what’s doing and the player himself can get his head around what he’s doing.”
