Sheffield Eagles are marking the occasion of their 1000th game this weekend with some special events surrounding their game against Featherstone Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The club’s first game was against Rochdale Hornets in September 1984.

The club is inviting 1000 local schoolchildren to attend the game, while the players will also warm up in a special T-shirt which commemorates the occasion.

Fans can buy the T-shirt, or purchase one of the special hospitality packages which are on offer for the occasion.

Eagles coach Mark Aston stressed, however, that the day was really all about getting the two points against Featherstone, as the battle for the middle eights heats up.

“It’s a massive game this Sunday,” he added.

“We’re right at the business end of the season and we’ll be fighting hard to get the point we need to secure a top four finish.”
