Eagles look to bounce back

Sheffield Eagles prop Jack Howieson (hamstring) will be assessed before coach Mark Aston finalises his squad for tomorrow’s fixture with York City Knights.

Eagles are hoping to bounce back from last week’s 34-12 home defeat against Featherstone.

Victory over the City Knights could see Sheffield finish as high as fourth, while putting massive pressure on Dave Woods’ relegation-threatened side.

York pair James Ford (quad) and Duane Straugheir (broken foot) could both feature in tomorrow’s trip to South Yorkshire.

Woods said: “We’re all ready for this week, and we’re looking forward to it. We’re feeling confident.

“I’m not big on statistics, but we’ve had two wins in a row twice this season, and both have had a week off in between. Whether that’s a good omen or not, I don’t know.”

He added: “A few boys really stepped up in that last game (against Halifax) and played very well. I’m expecting that again this Sunday.

“Sheffield are a strong side, and they’ll be looking to push up and get a decent result before the semis. We know it’s going to be tough, but we can only concentrate on ourselves.”
