Eagles could be at Sheffield’s soccer stadiums next season

Sheffield Eagles coach Mark Aston has hinted that his club could be playing their home games in their home city again next season.

Currently playing home games at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster, the Eagles are awaiting completion of a new ground on the site of the old Don Valley Stadium.

While that is still some way from being finished, the Eagles’ home ground for next year is still undecided.

“There is the dream of the new stadium coming around, but who knows what will happen next year?” Aston told the Sheffield Star.

“We’d love to be back in the city. Bramall Lane and Hillsborough are having Desso pitches; will Sheffield Eagles end up playing at one of those stadiums? You never know.

“We never wanted to be out of the city, we want to come back and for the people of Sheffield to be behind us.”

Aston also issued a rallying call to supporters who had not been prepared to travel to Doncaster for home games.

“We want people to be part of this journey,” he added.

“If you have gone away because we’ve gone to Doncaster, we want you back.”
