Duo sign with Sheffield for 2020

Frankie Mariano and Greg Burns have signed deals with Sheffield for the 2020 season.

Forward Mariano, 32, has made more than 150 career appearances for Hull KR, Wakefield, Castleford, Featherstone and Doncaster. He has also earned four caps for Scotland.

He said: “It is a step up from where I was at and I wasn’t expecting it to be fair.

“I didn’t have the best season at Donny due to injury, I put the feelers out there for a move and I had a chat with Tubbs [Mark Aston, coach].

“I am looking forward to getting started and meeting up with a few old faces as I’ve played with Jamesy [Matt James], Thacks [Anthony Thackeray] and Scott (Wheeldon).

“It should be good to get back into training and ready for the new season.”

Hooker Burns, 24, has penned a one-year deal with Sheffield. He has played 69 games for the Eagles since his debut in 2015.

He added: “I am happy to be staying with the club.

“Quite a lot of the boys are staying on too while other years we have had a lot of turnover.

“It’s nice to keep the majority of the team and keep this momentum going.”
