Duo return to Newcastle

Newcastle Thunder have re-signed Tyler Craig and Matty Barron for 2018.

Barron, 31, will play in to his 10th season with the club, during which time he has made more than 100 appearances and represented Wales.

Former York man Craig made 12 appearances for Thunder last season.

Thunder head coach Jason Payne said: “I’m delighted Matty has extended his stay, he brings a wealth of experience to our young squad.

“Matty has worked so hard over the last couple of years to come back from a pretty horrific broken leg and that was rewarded last year when he got selected for his county and represented Wales in the World Cup.

“We were immensely proud of his accomplishments and I’m hoping that over the next season he can produce some of his career-best form.

“It’s fantastic to regain Tyler’s services for a further season. Tyler had a hit and miss year last season for various reasons but what has never changed is our belief in him and how good he can be.

“Ty has trained brilliantly so far in pre-season and he looks to be back to the player we all know he can be.”
