Double injury blow for Wakefield

Wakefield Trinity have confirmed that Joe Arundel and Matty Ashurst are set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up injuries.

Arundel is set to be out for up to three months after undergoing surgery on a pectoral muscle injury, having been hurt in Trinity’s Easter clash against local rivals Castleford.

Second-rower Ashurst is expected to be out for five weeks after picking up a foot injury. The 29-year-old has had a similar injury already this campaign after being forced off against Leeds last month.

The pair have made a combined 14 appearances this campaign, with Arundel picking up three tries in the process.

The latest news further dents Wakefield’s injury-hit squad. They are already without Craig Huby, Bill Tupou, Anthony England and the half-back pairing of Jacob Miller and Danny Brough, while Tom Johnstone has been ruled out for the remainder of 2019.
