Don Gailer expects PNG pair to inspire squad

Whitehaven coach Don Gailer is hoping that the signings of Papua New Guinean internationals Jessie Joe Parker and Glen Nami can inspire his side against local rivals Workington Town.

The pair are not available until they secure work permits, but Gailer believes the two players will have an immediate impact.

Gailer said: “I think it’s real timely that we’ve signed these guys because it will put a bit more pressure on people’s places.

“This squad has a lot of character and I’m sure they’ll want to go out there and keep their jerseys.”

Haven travel the short distance to Derwent Park on Sunday to face a Workington side who came up short against fellow Cumbrian-side Barrow.

Gailer said: “We’ll run into a big storm at Workington, they’ve got a great pack and some handy backs.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a heck of a clash.”
