Dixon returns to London
London Broncos have confirmed the return of Hull KR outside back Kieran Dixon on a two-year deal from 2017.
24-year old Dixon originally came through London’s Academy system, and made his Super League debut with the club in 2012, at only 21.
Donning a Broncos jersey for three seasons, Dixon then moved to Hull KR when the club was relegated to the Championship at the end of 2014.
Born in Hackney, the talented winger/fullback has also represented England Knights, scoring two tries in his three appearances.
After the now infamous Million Pound Game earlier this year and Hull KR’s subsequent relegation, Dixon saw his chance to return home to London, and took it.
“Obviously, London’s where I came through from the academy, and getting the opportunity to come back and represent the team again is something that’s really good for me,” he said.
“It was an easy decision when it comes to being given the option – I’ve got a little girl down here and being closer to her and closer to my family is something that was hard to turn down.
“I’m looking forward to trying to get the team that put me in the position I was in, back in Super League. I think that’s the ultimate goal – to get London Broncos back to Super League.
“There are still a few boys in the squad that were there when I was there, but my best mate is Mike Channing, who’s come back as well, so I’m glad that I’m getting to hook up with him again.
“I’m hoping we can achieve promotion to Super League – that’s the goal for everyone in the team, and I want to give my all to contribute to that.
“To the Hull KR boys, thank you for bringing me in and making me feel at home up there. To the fans, I want to say thank you for welcoming me – they made things a lot easier. To the coaches, thanks for the opportunity, and I wish them all the best.”
Broncos head coach Andrew Henderson said he’s looking forward to seeing what Dixon can accomplish back in his home environment.
“Kieran is an exciting player with genuine strike, pace, a quality finisher and a proven try scorer in the Super League,” he said.
“He will offer strong competition for the wing and fullback positions and again strengthens an already strong back line.
“Kieran burst onto the scene – as we know – as a youngster and performed well in a struggling Broncos team.
“I think he did okay at the Rovers in his first season, and in the games I saw him play this year, but for whatever reason his face didn’t fit under the new regime and he found his opportunities limited.
“I know that Kieran is excited to be coming home and to be part of a new look Broncos set up. After speaking to him, he wants to work hard to impress and prove a few people wrong – I like that attitude.
“I look forward to seeing how he responds being back home and in our environment, as I believe we can get the best out of him and unearth his true potential.
“Overall I’m really excited as a coach to have the quality of backs at our disposal and I can’t wait to work with them all. We have a good balance of youth and experience, and I’m sure Kieran will add a different dynamic to this team.”
