Dewsbury Rams add four players ahead of Bradford clash

Dewsbury Rams have added four players to their squad ahead of their clash against Bradford in the Championship.

Prop Jack Blagbrough has the made the move from neighbours Batley on a deal until the end of the season. The 28-year-old has previously featured for Huddersfield, York, Leigh and Sheffield.

Joining the club on a short-term loan deals from Featherstone Rovers are Australian duo Bayley Gill and Ben Mathiou. Half-back Gill, 24, joined Rovers ahead of the 2022 campaign from Queensland Cup side Mackay Cutters. Prop Mathiou, 26, previously played for North Devils and has spent time on loan at Doncaster RLFC this season.

The pair have both found game time limited so far at Post Office Road in 2022.

Finally, the side have added Matt Garside on a short-term loan deal from Halifax Panthers. The 31-year-old has made more than 250 career appearances across stints with the likes of London, Sheffield, York and Bradford.

The latest arrivals will link up with newly-appointed head coach Liam Finn following the departure of Lee Greenwood. Finn, 28, joins the Rams for his first head coaching role, making the switch from Halifax, where he was working as assistant to Simon Grix.

Finn said “It’s great to be able to get these new lads in to freshen things up a little bit and to also ease some of the burden on the rest of the squad.

“It’s been a tough season for some of them so far, so we’re glad to have them here.”

Jackson Walker has also returned from his brief loan spell at Hunslet in League 1. Jake Sweeting has gone out on loan to the South Leeds Stadium side for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, the club also confirmed the departure of assistant coach Nathan Graham. He will still lead Scotland in their World Cup campaign later this year.
