Wakefield captain Jason Demetriou will leave the club at the end of the season after he revealed the Wildcats will not offer him a new deal.

Demetriou, 34, is currently enjoying a three-month testimonial awarded by the RFL for his service to the English game, having previously played for Widnes, Rochdale and Lancashire Lynx.

He said: “I am really enjoying playing at the moment and feel I can play another season.

“It would have been nice to stay with Wakefield and finish my career with them but it’s not to be. I’ve no hard feelings towards the club.

“Hopefully, I’ll get another Super League club. I think I have a lot to offer still and to play 10 years of Super League would be something to be proud of.”

The centre or loose forward moved to the Wildcats in 2003 and is also hoping to play for Greece in next year’s World Cup qualifiers.
