Defence key for Kearney

Parramatta coach Stephen Kearney says the Eels’ defence has been key to their improved form over recent weeks.

Kearney’s men have conceded just 38 points in their last three matches, which included victories over Cronulla, Newcastle and a hard-fought 14-14 draw with premiers St George.

“Our defence over the last three weeks has been a real improvement area for us and it needed to be – we weren’t travelling to well in that department,” Kearney said.

The squad will have an extra four days off before preparations begin for the round 15 clash with Manly, thanks to the bye.

Added Kearney: “[The bye] has probably been a bit of a blessing for us in that sense, we’ve had a few guys who have been carrying injuries, it’s come at a good time for us.

“They’re a bit like the Dragons, one of the form teams of the competition… it’s going to be a tough match over there at Brookvale.”
