Dawson led his side from the front in their 18-14 win over Batley Bulldogs, while Beharrell scored two tries and helped control the game in Thunders’ 24-16 victory against London Skolars.

Every week each coach in both Kingstone Press Championship competitions is contacted to help produce the awards.

Kingstone Press Championship Player of the Week – Andrew Dawson (Barrow Raiders)

Barrow Raiders prop Andrew Dawson led from the front as his side earned their first win under coach Bobbie Goulding against Batley Bulldogs.

Goulding hailed the performance of the front rower in the 18-14 win at Craven Park.

Goulding said: “He was absolutely outstanding.

“He led the team forward, hit the ball up more than what he should be doing, and really held his hand up.

“There’s nothing flash about Daws, but he grafts all day and is a really good work horse.

“He’s absolutely vital to what we do.”

Kingstone Press Championship One Player of the Week – Matty Beharrell (Gateshead Thunder)

Gateshead Thunder half-back Matty Beharrell scored two tries in an influential performance against London Skolars.

Beharrell scored once in each half as Thunder moved into fifth placed in Kingstone Press Championship One following the 24-16 win.

Thunder coach Stanley Gene praised Beharrell’s game management during the match and says he has been performing consistently well of late.

Gene said: “The last two weeks he has been playing really well.

“He’s getting us around the park. Last week he was good against South Wales and he was very good against London Skolars as well.”
