Barrow chairman David Sharpe and director Dawn Knowles have left the club following the club’s recent announcement of their financial crisis.

Sharpe became a director at the Raiders for the first time in 2011 and took on the role of chairman in 2012.

He returned to the board in 2017 at a time when the club was again in financial difficulties but has now left the club after struggling to balance managing the Raiders with his own business.

Sharpe said: “It had been very difficult to refuse the request to return to the board as chairman in the club’s hour of need.

“The task of allocating sufficient time to running both the club and my own business has proved to be even greater than I had envisaged.”

In a short statement, a Barrow spokesperson said: “David and Dawn have worked tirelessly, together with provisions of financial support during this second term to improve a situation inherit.

“He [Sharpe] now believes the club would benefit from fresh leadership and new board members in order to take the club forward.

“The board of directors would like to thank David and Dawn for all they have achieved in their time at the club and wish them well in the future.”

Barrow are aiming to raise £25,000 to help settle financial struggles and have set up a JustGiving page.
