David Orwell granted early release from Giants

David Orwell has been granted an early release by Huddersfield Giants.

The 21-year old was not offered a new contract at the Giants, and had asked for an early release in order to try and secure a permanent deal elsewhere ahead of the 2013 season.

It is likely he will play in the Championship for the remainder of the current season before he signs a long term deal elsewhere.

Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis blamed the salary cap for forcing the club to release Orwell.

He said: “It is a financial and cap reality that we can’t keep all our young players, and in choosing others ahead of Dave for next year’s squad it makes sense now for him to move on and seek a club where he can play first team rugby.

“His attitude and commitment are excellent and I have no doubts that he will continue his professional rugby career with a new club very soon.”
