David March pens new Hunslet deal

Hunslet captain David March has signed a new one-year deal to stay at the South Leeds Stadium.

March, 33, joined the club from York in 2010, and previously played in Super League for Wakefield.

Hawks Director of Rugby Darren Williams said: “To retain David is a real positive sign for all at the club as he has been a real leader in our disappointing Championship campaign and has a huge effect on the young players at the club who look to him when things get tough, having missed only one game this campaign shows his mental and physical toughness and he’s a key component in our plans for 2013.

“I can’t re-iterate how important he is to the club on and off the field and when he eventually hangs up his boots will be near on impossible to replace.”

March has scored five tries and three goals in 22 appearances for the Hawks this season.

Meanwhile, the club have also handed a new deal to winger Lee Mapals, who recently joined the Hawks from amateur side Methley.

Mapals, 26, previously played professionally for Keighley and York.
