Dave Furner feeling encouraged by Leeds players

Leeds coach Dave Furner said he couldn’t fault his side’s effort in their defeat at Wigan, and believes they are improving.

The Rhinos lost 34-16 against the Warriors at the DW Stadium on Friday evening.

Despite having lost their first two games of the season, Furner believes his side are showing promising signs.

Furner said: “We will certainly get better from the game and the effort was there from the players, I can’t fault that.

“I thought we put ourselves in a very good position at times in the first half and we defended well. We could’ve been better on discipline though and our execution wasn’t right when we were trying to get back into the game.

“We kept defending for each other in the second half so that tells me they’re trying hard and we just didn’t quite execute at times but there are certainly some positives there.

“I was encouraged by the players, they never gave up. We work hard, and I think some of us don’t see the hard work that Leeds are putting in every week, but I’ve always felt that this team is going to be building.”

Next up for Leeds is a trip to the AJ Bell Stadium next Sunday as they face Salford Red Devils, 3pm kick-off.
