Warrington head coach Daryl Powell says Matt Dufty is the type of player that will put bums on seats as the full-back lines up to make his debut against Huddersfield.

Powell confirmed that Dufty will make his first appearance for Wire at the John Smith’s Stadium. He only landed in England earlier this week, having signed on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Dufty, 26, made 94 appearances in the NRL across stints with St George Illawarra Dragons and Canterbury Bulldogs. However, he struggled to cement a spot at the Bulldogs in 2022 which saw him make the immediate move to England.

Powell: Matt Dufty is an exciting attacking player

“I’ve been watching him a fair while,” Powell told Love Rugby League. “I tried signing him when he was at Castleford.

“He’s a real full-back. I think he’s got a great instinct for the game. He’s a good decision maker with the ball.

“I think he’s been a bit of a punchbag over in the NRL, unfairly if I’m honest.

“He’s got electric speed and great footwork. He’s an exciting attacking player and I think you can expect to see those things. Hopefully he hits the ground running.

“I think we need to show him a little bit of patience for him to get to the speed of the game over here as it is a little bit different.

“He’s an exciting attacking player that people will pay money to watch.”

Warrington head into the fixture in 10th spot in the table, having won just seven games from 20. Huddersfield currently sit in the play-offs in fourth spot.
