Danny Washbrook to play on in 2021 with York

York have retained experienced forward Danny Washbrook for the 2021 Championship campaign.

The 34-year-old made 337 appearances for Wakefield and Hull FC before joining York ahead of the 2020 season. He played five games for the Knights before the Championship season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

York coach James Ford said: “Danny will be a key member of our squad in 2021.

“His leadership, experience and ability will be vital to our progression. Danny has plenty of utility value but primarily we aiming up at using him in the middle to give us some more ball movement and deception.

“Danny has played an awful lot of Super League and I’m confident his presence will have a huge benefit on some of our younger middles.”

Washbrook added: “Re-signing with the Knights was an easy decision for me, I enjoyed the first four months with the club and they’ve been great with us during the last four months of lockdown.

“The training and playing facilities at the club are spot on, we as players couldn’t ask for anything better.

“The ultimate aim for the club is Super League, whenever that may be, that is the end goal for any ambitious club in the Championship, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of helping the club reach that target.”
