Daniel Mortimer has become the latest player to leave Leigh and he will now return home to Australia.

The Centurions have yet to formally confirm his departure from the club, but the 29-year-old posted on his Instagram profile yesterday that he will be moving on with immediate effect.

Bodene Thompson, Jordan Thompson, Harrison Hansen, Craig Hall, Ben Crooks, Peter Mata’utia, Paterika Vaivai and Larne Patrick have all left Leigh within the last month.

Mortimer joined Leigh in 2017 from after having spells with Parramatta Eels, Sydney Roosters, Gold Coast Titans and Cronulla Sharks in the NRL.

The hooker or half-back made 21 appearances for the Lancashire outfit, scoring eight tries.

On his Instagram profile, he said: “Time for this Aussie to go home.

“We have had the best experience with the Leythers and will miss hearing the North Stand on a Sunday arvo! Thank you for having us.”

Mortimer will now try to join a club in the NRL, where he previously made a total of 128 first-grade appearances between 2009 and 2017.
