Daly Cherry-Evans set for sensational Super League transfer

Australian rugby league icon Daly Cherry-Evans is set for a sensational transfer to Super League in 2027 – after agreeing to sign for Hull FC.

The Black and Whites are closing in on a remarkable deal to bring one of the NRL’s standout players in recent times to England next year, it has emerged in Australia.

Cherry-Evans’ future in Australia has been under the microscope, with the expectation he would bring the curtain down on his legendary playing career in the coming weeks at the end of this season.

But instead, Cherry-Evans is now in advanced discussions to join the Black and Whites on what would likely be a one-year deal.

Cherry-Evans’ Super League move looms

The former Kangaroos half-back turns 38 at the start of next season, but he has arguably shown this year why he is still one of the best halves in the competition Down Under after a fine season with the Roosters.

Cherry-Evans’ move to Sydney over the winter caused a huge stir, as it meant he was bringing the curtain down on his time as a one-club man with Manly Sea Eagles.

But he will now add a third club to his CV asa a player after seemingly agreeing to link up with Steve McNamara at the Black and Whites next year.

What it means for Hull

The move is fascinating on numerous levels. Naturally, Cherry-Evans will come in and start for Hull, probably with Jake Arthur next year – which almost certainly means the end for captain Aidan Sezer.

Sezer has already been told he is free to speak with other clubs for a move away in 2027. York Knights are one team who have been linked with a move for the Australian.

But they now have extra depth in their backline too – as it means with Arthur and Cherry-Evans in the halves, both Bailey Hodgson and Will Pryce will have to stake a claim to be the Black and Whites’ first-choice fullback.

Pryce will be back fully fit next year after a horrific knee injury while Hodgson is joining from Leigh Leopards. Hodgson is capable of playing in multiple positions across the backline but the expectation was that Pryce could go to half-back, with Hodgson starting the season as Hull’s number one.

However, they will now all have to fit around one of the greatest players in the world game, with Cherry-Evans in advanced talks over a deal that would see him become one of Super League’s biggest stars.
