Cunningham To Play For Wales

Kieron Cunningham could feature for Wales in this autumn's 2008 World Cup qualifiers after the St Helens hooker withdrew from Great Britain's Gillette Tri-Nations campaign down under.

Cunningham was originally reported to be retiring from international rugby, but claims that his comments were taken out of context and he only wanted to opt out of the six week tour to Australia and New Zealand.

"I have sort of been misquoted, and people have just picked it up and have run with it" said Cunningham. "I'm not 100 per cent certain I have retired yet."

"All I said was that six weeks was too long to be away from the family, and that this Tri-Nations is going to be written off."

However, Cunningham has not ruled out featuring for the Dragons this season, starting against Scotland at Brewery Field on the 29th October.

"I've neglected Wales over the last few years, and put Great Britain ahead of them" he continued. "I love playing for Wales, and would definitely play for them again, I wouldn't rule that out, but Great Britain at the moment is out of the question."

CymruRL has also named Ieystin Harris in their squad for the qualifying series.
