Cunningham intends to extinguish Castleford’s hope

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham wants to make sure that Castleford’s last hopes of making the top four are crushed on Thursday evening at the Jungle.

The Tigers still have an outside chance of making the semi-finals, but Cunningham is determined to make sure that his own side consolidate their own top-four finish with victory.

“Every game is individual,” he said.

“We’re going to go to Castleford with a lot of intent, and obviously try and get the game.

“We’re going to play as tough as we can, and Castleford are going to come and try and get the points.

“Castleford have still got hope. They’re a very proud team from a proud town, and Daryl Powell is a very good coach, and a real good friend of mine.

“He’s long in the tooth and he knows a thing or two about rugby league, so he\’ll have his players ready.

“They actually played well Huddersfield, and they were unlucky at times.

“It’s going to be a tough battle, and I would imagine that there will be plenty of points scored, as there always is in our games.”
