Cunningham hails Wigan ahead of derby clash

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham believes that Wigan are Super League‘s current form side.

The Saints welcome the Warriors to Langtree Park on Friday evening for an eagerly awaited clash, and Cunningham feels that Wigan have really answered their critics aftert their appalling recent defeat in Perpignan to Catalans.

“They’ve been brilliant, I think that they’re the form side in the competition, I really do,” the Saints coach said.

“I didn’t read anything into their France loss.

“We’ve been a great side who’s gone over there, and you just fall into a bad hole on the day.

“The travel’s not good, and the heat’s not good, and things just don’t work out for you, and, generally, when it rains it pours.

“So I read zero into that result. I knew they would come out and beat Leeds, I knew that for a fact.

“They came out and did a super job against Leeds, and I watched the Huddersfield game, and they were brilliant.

“They were great. Huddersfield’s a real tough place to go, and they went out and did a job on Huddersfield.

“They’re in a rich vein of form at the minute. They’ve been injury-free for the last couple of weeks.”

Cunningham is also hoping for an entertaining clash for the spectators.

He added: “Hopefully the sun stays out, and it’s a nice entertaining Friday night for the fans.”
